I moved to Barnstaple four years ago from Canada.

The first two years started out all right but then we (my partner and I) hit a snag in our finances, which left us in a lot debt.

This eventually left us homeless and penniless.

Our troubles mounted to the point of ‘no return’, but with the help of the Staff and volunteers at the Freedom Centre we eventually dug ourselves out of the pit we were in.

By providing support, free meals and advice we were able to sort ourselves out and they showed us how to make the best of our situation. The Staff at Freedom offered a sympathetic ear and a shoulder to cry on. We were also able to talk to a CAP visitor about our finances and had some great advice.

The Freedom Centre also offered a shower facility and internet use. These came in handy so we could keep in contact with family (internet) and freshen up (shower).

Without the Freedom Centre, we couldn’t really help ourselves from the situation we were in. This place truly was our ‘Diamond in the rough’.
